Quebec region receives federal affordable housing funds

SAINT-ULRIC, QUE. — The federal government has announced it will contribute $35 million in funding and low-cost loans through the Affordable Housing Fund to help build and repair 360 affordable homes in the regions of Bas-Saint-Laurent, Mauricie and Lanaudiere in Quebec.

The announcement was made at Residence L’Entre Gens, located at 6 L’Entre Gens in Saint-Ulric, which received $1.1 million to build 22 new homes, according to a release. The residence is operated by Comite L’Entre Gens and units are dedicated to low- and moderate-income seniors.

Other projects include the Habitations Charles-IV in Quebec City, which received $12.2 million towards the construction of 163 units, Cooperative d’habitation Bellevue-Berthierville in Berthierville, which will receive $3.6 million to assist with the construction of 489 homes, and shelters in Quebec City, Shawinigan and Trois-Riviere, which will contain 12, eight and 21 units respectively.

The funding will help create a total of 297 new homes and support repairs of 63 homes.
