The Carpenters’ Union Local 27 recently hosted a Black History Month Showcase in Vaughan, Ont.
The event, presented by Afroglobal Television, honoured the No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during the First World War. The theme was Honouring the Past, Inventing the Future. The Carpenters’ Union presented replicas of the $20 Fine Silver Coin commemorating and recognizing the contributions of the No. 2 Construction Battalion of Nova Scotia.
The No. 2 Construction Battalion, the largest all-Black battalion-sized unit in Canadian military history, provided vital support to аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023’s war effort, by assisting Canadian Forestry Corps (CFC) lumber operations in France. The unit was formed in 1916 and disbanded in 1920.
